On February 17 and 18, 2026, Muta had the pleasure of organizing and holding a training course dedicated to ATAC on Konvekta UL500EM CO2 HP heat pump systems for Iveco E-way buses in Rome.
With over 100 years of history, ATAC is the company that manages public transport in Rome and is the leading urban mobility operator in Italy, as well as one of the largest in Europe.
The training initiative, realized thanks to the collaboration and availability of ATAC, engineer Ezio Rosi, Engineer Gian Marco Procaccianti, and their entire staff, focused on the Konvekta UL500 "EM" CO2 (R744) heat pump air conditioning system, installed on Iveco "E-Way" electrified vehicles.

CO2 as an environmentally friendly choice
Konvekta has long adopted carbon dioxide for its heat pumps, and Muta, the Italian agent for the leading mobile air conditioning system in the bus industry, has fully embraced Konvekta's philosophy of innovation and environmental awareness. The Konvekta CO2 heat pump is an air conditioning system for electric buses that increases range and saves money on service and maintenance, while also adding environmental benefits. A CO2 system that offers environmental, sustainable, and extremely cost-effective thermal management that is immediately available. Muta is the Italian agent for the leading mobile air conditioning system in the bus industry.

The training program Muta delivered at ATAC consisted of two complementary sessions:
• A theoric session, during which the system's operating characteristics were analyzed in detail, with particular attention to maintenance aspects and operational best practices.
• A hands-on session on the vehicle allowed participants to directly observe the housing of sensitive components and watch a guided demonstration of the use of diagnostics, which is essential for monitoring functionality and promptly identifying any anomalies.

The Ultra Light 500 CO2 HP is a reversible air conditioning system that combines the characteristics of a heat pump and an air conditioning system. Developed as a rooftop unit for bus applications, it uses CO2 refrigerant (R744), which is particularly attractive from a thermodynamic and environmental perspective.
Eng. Olaf Aubel, with the support of Emanuele Muratori for Italian interpretation, led the discussion with the ATAC participants—including two Muta technicians and four technical experts from Romana Diesel, an Iveco dealer—in a constructive and highly professional dialogue, sharing skills and experiences and responding with great willingness to answer the interesting questions that arose.
An important opportunity for technical development and collaboration, confirming the value of ongoing training as a strategic lever for efficiency and innovation in public transport.

Working closely with major bus manufacturers, Konvekta is able to offer customized solutions for every need. This allows for the development of dedicated units, capable of delivering high functionality in every field of application, in the diverse climate zones in which they operate.
The Konvekta program of roof-mounted units for city and tourist buses includes a wide selection, compatible with any type of vehicle.
"These special vehicles were purchased under the National Plan for Transport (PNRR) and are fully electric, resulting in zero noise and zero emissions. This is a key aspect of our environmental policy, the reduction of CO2 emissions, and the renewal and strengthening of Rome's public transport system, raising quality standards," Roberto Gualtieri, Mayor of Rome.
This marks a further leap forward in the radical renewal of the Atac fleet, which will be more modern, environmentally friendly, and comfortable, improving the quality and efficiency of public transport and citizen safety. Eugenio Patanè, Councilor for Mobility, City of Rome
